Introduction to the activities of the Department:

Higher Education system in the State has witnessed impressive growth in recent years and this trend is expected to continue in the coming years too. The department of higher education has taken various measures to expand and improve the capacity and quality in higher education. Out of total 172 Government Colleges 65 Colleges are exclusively for girls. The department has opened 15 new government colleges this year. There are 97 privately managed aided colleges out of which 35 Colleges are for girls. We are committed to opening more government colleges exclusively for girls so as to ensure greater access to girls in higher education. At present there are 10 State and 24 Private Universities under the ambit of Higher Education Department.

Notable achievements of the department for the year 2020-21

The focus of the State Government is to increase the placement of students studying in degree colleges. In addition to this emphasis is also laid on start ups and entrepreneurship among students. We have started a new project eKarma to train our students on freelancing portals and self-employment. We recognise the use of technology in education sector, hence, various ICT initiatives namely centralised real time on line admissions, mobile app for students, e-learning content in all Govt. Colleges, smart classrooms, Digital Library Portal and e-learning labs have been implemented. My Government has started 24X7 helpline Nai Disha for counselling of students. We are providing passport assistance to students of final year studying in colleges. Structured programmes for girls empowerment, environment protection, road safety, divyang students (Astavakra Kendra), Nutrition Gyan have been started. Sparsh Braille magazine for blind students and two e journals MRIDA and ACADEMIC have also been started
